Areas of work

I cover the following issues:

Anxiety, depression, relationships, work place issues, addictions, self-esteem, anger, grief/loss, faith, paranoia, imposter syndrome, limerence, inner child, autonomy and many more.  (I am unable to offer couples counselling)

My Approach

At JB Cornerstone, my approach is rooted in empathy, respect, and understanding. I prioritise creating a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My goal is to empower individuals to navigate life's challenges with resilience and confidence.

Sessions are held using an integrative approach which means various models of therapy can be brought together and tailored to the needs of the individual. It also means that a client doesn't have to fit any therapeutic mould.  In therapy, the client leads and the therapist goes with them where ever they want to go.

What I'm about

I graduated in 2012 and worked with a broad range of clients with various issues.  I have extensive experience of working in mental health and addiction.  I have also worked with the homeless and those with severe disabilities.

My work as a counsellor is my career passion. There is nothing like being there for people at the frontline of their emotions.

1.

Psychodynamic Therapy

The client is encouraged to look through their early years to understand how the past influences the present.  Sometimes we have experiences from childhood that leave a mark on us and remain through to adulthood.

2.

Person Centred Therapy

The person centred model is the foundation of my therapy.  It helps the person I am supporting to feel they are in the driving seat of their own session. It also helps them to take ownership of their progress.   Genuine progress is made when a person is empowered to come to their own conclusions within a safe and protected space.

3.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a practical and solution focussed method that enables people to look at their situation from a different perspective.  Sometimes we get locked into one way of thinking in the vain hope of finding a solution.  CBT is a means to challenge how we see things, and enable us to find an answer by looking from a different angle.

4.

Transactional Analysis Therapy (TA)

In this model, we can come to understand our inner dialogue and find a better way to interpret our surroundings.  If we can learn about the needs and roles of our inner parent, adult and child, we can become more grounded in our objective reasoning.

Store Theory Model

A model that many have found helpful in their therapy is called Store Theory.  This is a model that I have devised over a period of three years and it has been very popular in the therapeutic community.  People have found it useful for understanding how they operate internally and how this impacts their relationships.  It highlights how active our hidden and private side is, and how we may react to certain people and situations depending on what we have been through in our life journey.

Therapy isn't just for those in a crisis.  Sometimes we just need somewhere to go with our struggle. A safe and impartial space to find a release.

Session format types

I am based in the Maidstone area of Kent and I offer various formats for meeting with people.  These include: online video chat (MS Teams), phone or text therapy.  I can also offer house calls if the client can ensure a private and undisturbed space.  This can be discussed further in the initial session.

Further Details

I am an accredited counsellor with the BACP and I adhere to their Ethical Principles framework. I am fully committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This ensures that I keep up to date with current information and helps me to uphold a high standard of therapy.  I have an up to date DBS certificate and I am licensed with the ICO as a data controller
